FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the most popular type of carpet sold today?

Berber is the most popular at the present time because of the ease of maintenance and excellent appearance retention.

  • What is Berber carpeting?

Generally Berber means looped carpeting and it is available in a wide variety of textures and patterns.

  • What is the difference between Scotchguard and Stainmaster?

There is no difference between these two finishes -- Sctochguard is made by 3M and Stainmaster is made by Invista. Either of these two finishes are stain resistant.

  • What carpet is recommended for basements?

Most carpets sold today are 100% synthetic making them moisture and mildew resistant.

  • What type of underpad is recommended for basements?

Various types are suitable for basements provided they can breath, allowing the moisture to pass through and dissipate. A vapour barrier will only cause moisture to be trapped beneath the pad and will cause mold, mildew and odour.

  • What style or type of carpet is recommended for high traffic areas such as halls, stairs, family rooms etc?

For the best performance and appearance retention in these areas a carpet pile that is short and tight would give you the longest life - such as a berber or a tight twist. Other things to consider in these areas are soilage hiding colours or subtle two tones.

  • What causes ripples and buckling to appear after the carpet has been installed?

These problems are caused by improper installations, eg. the carpet was not stretched properly and secured to the tackless around the perimeter of the room.

  • What type of underpad do you supply?

We use a premium grade 8 pound density pad for all our work, as specified by most manufacturers' warranty specifications. This premium pad aids in the ease of vacuuming, no bottoming out and maintaining manufacturers crushing warranties.

  • Are there any harmful chemicals used in your carpet and pad?

No. All carpet and pad sold today is tested by a third party testing company called Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI).

  • How can I keep my new carpet looking nice?

Regular vacuuming will help your carpet keep its just-like-new look. We also recommend that you have a professional carpet cleaner clean your carpets once a year.
